Compact dense rounded slightly vase-shaped shrub that may arch to the ground. Purple yellow-veined new foliage turns greenish purple with maturity while retaining the yellow veins. Quite beautiful.
1" red tubular funnel-shaped flowers have yellowish throats and attract hummingbirds. Blooms for a month in late spring to early summer.
Excellent in borders, in groups or as a specimen. Best blooms in full sun. Prefers soil well drained, but thrives in most conditions, city or country. Species native to eastern Asia. Z4, maybe Z3. (1-3' bare-root plants)
