This is a twig for grafting.Summer. Unknown parentage, New York, before 1835.
Smallish deep red fruits with russet dots appear like Sparkle strawberries on the tree. Delicious summer dessert apple, the perfect savory balance between sweet and tart with lots of flavor. Red-tinged firm-textured flesh. Great for cooking—apple risotto with root vegetables, or added to a stuffing.
Traditionally grown throughout central and southern Maine and the rest of New York and New England. Our scionwood comes from an ancient roadside tree we discovered nearby in Searsmont. Blooms midseason. Z4.

We sell scions (scionwood) in two ways. Each single 8" stick will graft 3 or 4 trees, and comes with a small paper ID label. Scionwood by the foot (minimum order of 10 feet) will usually graft about 6 or 8 trees from one foot of scionwood. You can graft right away or store it for later use. Stored properly, it will keep quite well for several weeks.
Scions are twigs, not trees. They have no roots and will not grow if you plant them.
