Bintje conventionalyellow skin, yellow flesh A Dutch schoolteacher in the early 20th century bred potato varieties that he mostly named after his students. Released in 1905, this variety bears the nickname of a little girl. The Dutch pronunciation is something like BIN-tchyeh, but Americans tend to BIN-jee.
The most widely grown yellow-fleshed potato in the world because of its storability, proficient growth habits and adaptability to a wide range of soil types. Large clusters of smooth golden-fleshed tubers will appear beneath these quickly germinating, vigorous plants. Exquisite flavor; the Dutch know a thing or two about breeding desirable potatoes.
