Solon Hotel Crabapple

Malus 25x25' Ed Brown intro, Solon, Maine.

Deep red-pink buds open to soft white-pink fragrant single blossoms. Very heavy bloomer every year, looks like a snowstorm when it drops petals in a breeze. Abundant crop of 1" green-yellow fruit for the birds drops in late fall.

The tree appeared as a chance seedling above the banks of the Kennebec River just across Route 201 from the Solon Hotel, a local Somerset County gathering spot for generations. The Hotel, as it’s locally called, dates back to when travel was slower, TV and internet were science fiction, and every town in Maine had a hotel. Z3/4. Maine Grown. (Semi-dwarf: 2½-5' bare-root trees)
