Rounded shrub with distinctly horizontal stepped branching habit, frosted with spectacular parallel rows of 4–6" pure white inflorescences that float above the foliage in spring. Lacecap flowers are absolutely magnificent in bloom though not fragrant. Author Michael Dirr says, “This excellent plant is now embedded in the psyche of American gardens.” For good reason. We saw outstanding specimens in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens one spring. Their beauty drew us across the lawns like moths to a pure white flame. Serrated deeply veined dark green foliage turns red-purple in fall. Impressive large red fruit clusters turn black toward summer’s end and are relished by birds. Species native to Asia. Z4/5. (1–3')
