Edna Cider Apple

Malus spp. Fall. Bittersharp cider apple. Introduced in 2003 by Cornish Cider Company, a “small cellar cidery” in Cornish, ME. Owners Jacqueline and Jared Carr create wonderful ciders made mostly from wild seedling apple varieties found in and around their hometown. Jared found Edna growing on his grandparents’ sheep and alpaca farm in Cornish, and it was the first variety he deemed worthy of propagation for his young cider orchard. Jared said, “My grandmother would always name her animals after her grandchildren so I named the apple Edna after her… she was the sweetest lady.”

Medium-sized round fruit is yellow-green with pinkish-red cheeks on the sunny side and a russet splash around the stem. Medium acid and high tannins. Often has the highest sugar content of all the apples Cornish Cider Company presses, second only to Golden Russet.

Ripens early October. Blooms early. Z4. Maine Grown. (Standard: 3-6' bare-root trees)
