Opalescent

Opalescent Apple Scionwood

This is a twig for grafting. Fall. Ohio, 1899.

Highly flavored dessert apple for the connoisseur. Biting into the very large brilliant deep red fruit will bathe your tongue with flavor. Crisp, sweet, tart, juicy—but most of all it’s supremely flavorful.

Although considered to be a good cooking apple as well, I find that it’s best as a dessert fruit. Every so often we meet someone who knows Opalescent and all agree: it’s got great flavor.

Likely at its best from Massachusetts north. Will keep till mid-late winter. Blooms midseason. Z4.

Additional Information

Scionwood

The deadline for ordering scionwood is February 21, 2020, for shipment around March 16.

We sell scions (scionwood) in two ways.
Each single 8" stick will graft 3 or 4 trees, and comes with a small paper ID label.
Scionwood by the foot (minimum order of 10 feet) will usually graft about 6 or 8 trees from one foot of scionwood.
You can graft right away or store it for later use. Stored properly, it will keep quite well for several weeks.

Scions are twigs, not trees. They have no roots and will not grow if you plant them.
