Mesabi Pie Cherry

Prunus cerasus Summer. Bing x chance seedling (sweet x sour cherry) Duluth, MN, 1964.

Red skin and lighter red flesh with clear juice. Considered a sour cherry, but sweeter than types. Recommended for sauce and pies.

John became very curious about Mesabi when he heard reports of 20-year-old trees in Maine remaining healthy and productive. About ten years ago he began a trial on his farm. The tree has shown no dieback and is fruiting again this summer. It has also remained entirely disease free. Naturally dwarf-sized tree will grow to about 10-14'. Z4. (2½-6' bare-root trees)
