Melody Maker Apple Scionwood

Melody Maker Apple Scionwood

This is a twig for grafting. Fall. Bittersharp cider apple. Chance seedling discovered in 1989 along a hedgerow in downeast Washington County, Maine. Fedco Trees intro.

Mild bittersharp with good cider potential (SG 1.063). Medium-sized roundish-blocky glowing pink and orange fruit is entirely russeted. One of the many unusual seedling discoveries now on trial at John Bunker’s farm in central Maine. Although it will probably never make it as a dessert apple, it deserves a place in the orchards of northern russet-lovers and cider makers. Z4.

Additional Information

The deadline for ordering scionwood is February 21, 2020, for shipment around March 16.

We sell scions (scionwood) in two ways.
Each single 8" stick will graft 3 or 4 trees, and comes with a small paper ID label.
Scionwood by the foot (minimum order of 10 feet) will usually graft about 6 or 8 trees from one foot of scionwood.
You can graft right away or store it for later use. Stored properly, it will keep quite well for several weeks.

Scions are twigs, not trees. They have no roots and will not grow if you plant them.
