Jonagold Apple Scionwood

This is a twig for grafting. Fall. NY 43013-1 (Golden Delicious x Jonathan) NY Stn, 1968. An all-purpose variety grown commercially in central and southern New England. May excel in warmer parts of Maine. Large round-conic yellow fruit mostly covered with light scarlet stripes is sweet, wonderful, firm, crisp, very aromatic. Excels both for fresh eating and for cooking. Makes an especially wonderful applesauce. The mailorder company “Applesource” rates Jonagold’s flavor as “A+”. Vigorous very productive medium-sized tree has few growing problems. Branches need little training. Should be eaten soon after harvest. Stores only until December. Triploid; will not pollinate other varieties. Because of its long blooming season it may be more susceptible to fireblight than some varieties. Blooms midseason. Z4-6.

Additional Information

The deadline for ordering scionwood is February 15, 2019, for shipment around March 11.

We sell scions (scionwood) in two ways.
Each single 8" stick will graft 3 or 4 trees, and comes with a small paper ID label.
Scionwood by the foot (minimum order of 10 feet) will usually graft about 6 or 8 trees from one foot of scionwood.
You can graft right away or store it for later use. Stored properly, it will keep quite well for several weeks.

Scions are twigs, not trees. They have no roots and will not grow if you plant them.
