Hunt Russet Apple

Malus spp Winter. Hunt Farm, Concord, MA, before 1750, perhaps as early as the 17th c.

If any apple tree should be in a Concord orchard, it would be this one. One of America’s oldest varieties, once important commercially. Larger than most other russets with patches of red russet on the cheek. Fine, tender, juicy, subacid, sprightly flesh of excellent flavor.

One of the best winter storage apples. In fact, the Maine pomologist Eugene Carpovitch once wrote to John that his Hunt Russets kept for an astounding one year in the root cellar! Blooms midseason. Z4. Maine Grown. (Standard: 3-6' bare-root trees)
