Autumn Arctic Apple Scionwood
This is a twig for grafting. Late Summer. Thought to be an Arctic seedling. Fred Ashworth intro, Heuvelton, NY, 1956.Very good dessert fruit with a nice flavor balance, some banana essence, tropical and pineapple. Medium-large deeply ribbed blocky green fruit usually with a red blush, russet netting, and a deep cavity. Crowned with those “Red Delicious” bumps around the blossom end.
Discovered in Barnard, VT, and later introduced by Fred Ashworth, founder of the well-known St. Lawrence Nurseries. Probably Z3.
