Burgundy Scionwood Apple Scionwood

This is a twig for grafting. Fall. NY 161 [Monroe x NY 18491 (Macoun x Antonovka)]. NY Sta., 1974. Very hardy, high-quality cooking variety. Striking for its large (3" size and glossy purplish-red roundish fruit. Steve Miller’s comment: “It reaches out and grabs you!” Waves and rays of red in the firm juicy flesh. Strong distinctive aroma and a pleasantly unique flavor with a tart zingy aftertaste. Taste test comment: “Wow, hey, that’s really different!” Makes an aromatic well-balanced early fresh cider. Bears annually and hangs on the tree for extended picking. Stores about two months. Blooms late. Zones 3-5.

Additional Information

The deadline for ordering scionwood is February 15, 2019, for shipment around March 11.

We sell scions (scionwood) in two ways.
Each single 8" stick will graft 3 or 4 trees, and comes with a small paper ID label.
Scionwood by the foot (minimum order of 10 feet) will usually graft about 6 or 8 trees from one foot of scionwood.
You can graft right away or store it for later use. Stored properly, it will keep quite well for several weeks.

Scions are twigs, not trees. They have no roots and will not grow if you plant them.
