Hardy Cyclamen
Hardy Cyclamen Cyclamen coum Reflexed and twisting pink petals seem to hover just above the foliage. In early spring, ½" flowers bloom in varying shades of pink. Beautiful rounded to kidney-shaped to heart-shaped dark green leaves are often spackled silver.

Not to be confused with Cyclamen hederifolium, also called hardy cyclamen (but also called ivy-leaved cyclamen) which blooms in late summer.

Spring-flowering coum prefers partial shade. Native to mountains along the Black Sea.

3-5", ES, Z5-9, 13-15cm.

Additional Information

Miscellaneous Bulbs

is the name the Royal General Bulbgrowers Association in Holland (Koninklijke Algemeene Vereeniging voor Bloembollencultuur, or KAVB) gives to this large group of flowers. The expensive catalogs call them specialty or accent bulbs; some call them minor or dwarf bulbs (even though some of the fritillaries are huge!); Louise Beebe Wilder covered most of them in her 1936 classic Adventures with Hardy Bulbs. Whatever you call them, most are uncommonly sweet, delicate, colorful, and completely welcome in spring.

Descriptions and Codes

At the end of each description are:

  • approximate height at flowering time,
  • relative bloom time (VE, very early spring; ES, early spring; MS, mid-spring; LS, late spring),
  • USDA hardiness zones,
  • bulb size.
indicates an exceptionally good deal.
