| Fall. Chance seedling
of unknown parentage, Mt. Vernon, ME(Kennebec County). Discovered
near Locke's Corners on the Bean Road in Mt. Vernon by Russell Libby,
executive director of Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association
(MOFGA). Russell gave me three
apples just before I was heading off on a taste test tour a couple
of falls ago. Although I was hardly impressed by the sight of the
small miserable-looking samples, they turned out to be the surprise
favorites that fall on three separate occasions. Superb flavor for
fall dessert eating. Brownish russet skin. Not a late keeper like
Golden Russet. Now being tested in other central Maine locations,
I think this will be an excellent variety to try in northern areas.
