Salix gracilistyla ‘Melanostachys’ Black Pussy Willow 6-10' x same. Very attractive fast-growing plant for wetland areas. Deep purple-black male catkins in early spring, suitable for the dining table or kitchen windowsill. The rather short foliage emerges orange and then turns a deep green. Stems assume a rich purple-black color in winter. Very nice dark colors all year. Winner of Royal Horticulture Society Award of Garden Merit. Prune in summer or fall. Full sun, prefers moist soils, pH adaptable but does not like shallow chalky soils. Native to eastern Asia. Z4. ME Grown. (12-15") |
